4330M steel (also known as 4330 modified steel) is a double melted modified form of 4330 steel with several property improvements. The addition of vanadium improves hardenability of the alloy, allowing it to be heat treated to higher strength levels. The alloy is primarily treated to the 1520-1650 N/mm2 range. Additionally, 4340m offers higher fatigue strength, improved notch toughness and resistance to crack propagation, has good toughness and fantastic impact strength even at low temperatures. As such, 4330M steel material is used commonly in the aircraft industry for bolting, airframes, shafts, landing gear and other parts that demand high strength. Standard specifications for 4330M include AMS 6411 and AMS 6427.
At Rickard Specialty Metals, we have 25+ years of experience supplying 4330M materials to your custom measurements and shapes. Our forging process includes open die forgings, ring rolling and more. See below for a list of common forged shapes, including 4330 modified bar stock, and other product forms we offer.
